I just learned about something that makes me very happy: the
Northwest Center for Philosophy for Children. The director also has a great
blog about teaching philosophy to K-12 students. Things like this center and the radio show
Philosophy Talk give me hope for philosophy's prospects.

Not only philosophy's prospects, but our nation's prospect. We need more programs like this that carve out 3 dimensional children, instead of entertainment driven, one-dimensional people.
Great blog name, by the way.
This is interesting to know since many philosophy majors like myself who want to teach college level may have to teach K-12. And, if they are like me and hated K-12, it would make it easier if they were allowed to teach philosophy.
Beyond this, I have rarely heard of schools allowing philosophy as an elective for many reasons. However, it is good to hear that there is some work to push philosophy in high school, other than in Debate.
